Well, its nice, but its no castle!
Ok, so, part a here is i´m on a qwerty keyboard, which is great....but also erin and i shared a pitcher of sangria with dinner.... so forgive any rambles.
Anywho, we started off... i guess three days ago and headed to Carcasonne. It was a bit of a rough trip, we ended up having to change trains twice and all sorts of silly bits, but we got there, at like 2:30. The woman at the tourist office called ahead and reserved us a place in the old city, which turned out to be quite an uphill walk in the heat, but..... ITS A MEDIEVAL FORTRESS!!!! Thats right, its a super neat medieval fortress on a hill, you know when youre on tours of castles, and they go, at one time in the 13th century 2000 people lived in these walls, blah blah blah, yeah WE WERE THOSE PEOPLE! Its such a little kid dream! The hostel was totally sufficient, and the city itself is touristy, but cute, all tiny cobblestones etc. We must have spent hours climbing on ramparts goofing about... We also got a bit of a guided tour of some of the special bits you can´t climb on by yourself. The lower town is good as well, a bit older, built late 13th century and all...but we spent a good bit of time down there as well. The surrounding countryside is amazing, vineyards, dark green trees, terracotta houses, its like living in a cezanne painting. Fantastic! We could have stayed there forever, some how castles never get old.
This morning we went early to get a train to switch to a train to barcelona, which was late and i was sad that we would spend the day trying to catch up..... but as erin really enjoyed saying in france, it wasn´t just our first train that was ´retarded´(late)...so we caught it in time. We were sitting across from this kid and his mom... must have been like five, really enjoyed kicking me in the shins and thought i didnt speak french... every time i closed my eyes he would say, in french, ¨mom the girl is asleep!¨, then i would open them and hed say, öh, now the girl is awake!¨...this repeated for hours. Also, on this particular train there were tvs... this one playing a documentary on pandas hosted by debra winger and her kid? it was the silliest thing ever...
So, now we´re in barcelona! We took a bike tour today, which only had 5 people on it, but was fun still, we saw lots of major sites, including the la segrda familia(gaudi´s big church), and aforementioned stop for sangria by the beach... A good time... Also, we keep running into these funny canadians, 3 times now in two days, france and spain, very amusing, funny how travel happens that way. Also, interesting fact, Gaudi died at age 74, he was hit by a streetcar, however he wasn´t dead, but because he was so dedicated to his buildings he wasnt clean shaven and was wearing scrubby clothes, they put him in the homeless section of the hospital and forgot to check back for a couple of days, when they figured out who he was, he had already died, sad no? On a happier note, we´re having a great time ;) Talk to you soon!
